Artistic theme

NEIGHBOURHOOD

Art is mainly a political act. Santorini Biennale «gives voice» to politicians and calls them to define #Neighbourhood and how they are making efforts towards promoting & supporting cultural exchange between different cultures.

1. CALL FOR POLITICIANS

change the quality of politics & dimplomacy

“Neighbourhoods” are simultaneously geographic and ideological regions, political biotops, economic spaces. They are common places without impermeability as different societies and cultures need to interact between them, especially when they are called to solve common problems such as: climate change, environmental pollution, urbanization, social inequalities, intolerance, criminality, terrorism, sub-birth or population explosion, economic exploitation, «production of poverty», immigration and much more.

Modern diplomacy seems to “run” a marathon of sovereignty and enforcement rather than a process of normalization of relations between different “neighbourhoods”, thus interrupting cultural exchange and contributing to the creation of closed and fearful ideological societies.

Dear Politicians,

if you think that cultural exchange is of fundamental importance in the development process, are you planning to change the quality of your politics and diplomacy in order to dissolve fear and suspiciousness among people?

2. THE BOOK PROJECT

a book written by about 25.000 politicians

The book “#neighbourhood” will be published on-line on Santorini’s Biennale website in a A4 PDF format and it will be free of charge to download and share it. The #Neighbourhood Book will host about 25.000 pages devised in 60 volumes.
